2007 Volvo Xc90 - YV4CZ982471- Boulder, CO: August 29th, 2012
The headlights started to flicker a few months ago. At first i thought i was imagining it until they started to briefly blink, i still was not sure it was happening. Tonight, as i was driving home, the lights abruptly turned off. I stopped the car as i was driving with no headlights and noticed a warning light that said low beam failure. I turned the car off and back on and the headlights started to work again. On the 30 minute drive home, the headlights would blink off and on; sometimes one would work, sometimes neither would work. Very unsafe!!! I'm very upset to read that this is a known complaint and volvo has not addressed the problem. When the headlights turned off in the dark, i had both of my children in the car with me. It's horrible they would allow this known problem to go unresolved. That's playing with people's lives.

2011 Volvo Xc90 - YV4952CZ1B1- Slidell , LA: August 24th, 2012
From the beginning this vehicle has delayed acceleration, very dangerous to drive when pulling out in front of on-coming traffic, or making left hand turn with on-coming traffic. Brakes make loud cracking popping sound when braking and turning the wheel, do not feel safe with it making such awful sounds.

2011 Volvo Xc60 - YV4902DZ8B2- West Bloomfield, MI: August 24th, 2012
Vehicle was coasting into parking spot and experienced sudden unintended acceleration, hit wall. Neither gas nor brake pedal was depressed at this point and floor mats were clear of pedals.

2006 Volvo V50 - YV1MW682162- Los Angeles, CA: August 21st, 2012
3 separate issues: 1. Electrical: power windows and power locks sporadically stop working. This started happening around march of 2011. This happens without warning and does not matter if the car is in motion or not. 2. Suspension: after only 33,000 miles of driving in southern california mild weather, several parts of the suspension system are broken, including the struts, control arms, and engine mount. 3. Visibility: since purchasing the vehicle, i have experience poor visibility while driving due to the front dash reflecting in the windsheild. This is especially bothersome during sunny weather, which is nearly every day where i live.

1999 Volvo S70 - YV1LS61F9Y2- St Clair Nsw Australia 2759, AL: August 20th, 2012
Twice, within 50 metres of the same spot each time, my car has suffered extreme acceleration whilst i was braking as hard as i could. First time, my mechanic checked all computer diagnostics using two different computer testing devices but there were no fault codes. Now, as well as happening twice within 50 metres of the same spot, i was at the same set of traffic lights, which i do not suspect as being the problem, but also next to a major hospital with an adjacent helipad. My best guess after 57 years in electronics and 40+ in computers is that some sort of rf interference is upsetting my vehicle. I know volvo check all accidents involving their cars in sweden and wonder whether they have ever come across my problem. Both times the engine screamed its head off although i had no time to worry about the tachometer reading. The noise itself was adequate warning and the lack of braking meant that i had to kill the ignition to recover mine and the vehicles composure. Switching on the ignition again both times, the vehicle once again idled normally and operated as it should.

2000 Volvo V70 - YV1LW56D5Y2- Redwood City, CA: August 8th, 2012
August 8, 2012 i am sending this complaint concerning the service i received on a recall for a 2000 v-70 volvo, campaign# r115 ( vehicle speed ), nhtsa -campaign# o6v441000, action # eaq-5021. I scheduled an appointment with a volvo dealership. I went to the scheduled appointment and left my vehicle to be serviced. I was called from the dealership and was told my car was ready for me to pick up. After driving my vehicle for about 15 min max. It began unfortunately with the same symptoms i previously was experiencing. I called the service department where i apparently had my car serviced for repair and was told by the manager that i would be responsible for another diagnosis, and that it was probably something else, since the recall service was done i decided to call the: volvocars. Us telephone #, @ 1-800-458-1552. I thought for sure, i would receive the support i needed. I did not. I was told once again, i was responsible for the repair. Very upset, needless to say, i proceeded once again, and called the manager at the volvo dealership. I expressed once again, my concern with the service performed. In addition to the service, i had some questions concerning the service invoice. They have yet to be answered. I have adolescent children who are passengers in my vehicle everyday, and we would so appreciate!!! Our car serviced as it should be, please, this recall reads more than an upgrade. Apparently this upgrade was completed, i beg to differ. Thank you for your time and consideration in this very concerning matter, as i look forward to hearing from your office. At your most earliest convenience.

2012 Volvo Xc60 - YV1DZ83A4C2- 78370 Plaisir France, DC: August 4th, 2012
Sudden failure of the power steering, amongst others, right in the middle of a crossroads. Very dangerous emergency stopping of the car, engine stopped, all alarms on, steering nearly impossible to use without power. Had to tow the vehicle to service center. Volvo claims this is nothing more than a common place alternator failure (there has been a recall campaign for similar problems with auxiliary belt tensioner). Power steering failed although battery was fully charged. Found on the internet this occurring several times to other xc60 drivers. As alternator failures without any warning are so "common place" and as they can have such very negative impact on safety, why isn't there any battery-based power steering survivability as on most other vehicles?

2004 Volvo C70 - YV1NC62D04J- San Francisco, CA: July 23rd, 2012
Vehicle start then die or just crank and no start. At the time problem thought to be fuel pump relay. Immobilizer was checked but nothing done. Immobilizer continued to be a problem (after warranty expired); keys have been replaced/recoded, immobilizer control module found faulty and replaced, antenna ring found faulty and replaced. This is a safety issue because there is no warning prior to this occurring; it just will not start when the key is put into the ignition (could be day or night - you are just stuck! ) recently, on 7-16-2012 the vehicle repeated this action three (3) times on the same day. In the last two (2) months i have recorded not less than ten (10) incidents. Had i called for a road assist each time i would not have any more available calls. For some reason the transmitter and receiver (transponder) are not in synch (anti-theft device is overdoing its job). Volvo. Com was contacted but so far have not done anything to address this. This is definitely a safety related defect and a pricey one.

2012 Volvo S60 - YV1622FS7C2- York, PA: July 21st, 2012
The adaptive cruise control in my vehicle has been occasionally malfunctioning (about 10-15 times since purchasing my vehicle in may) causing it to apply the parking brake at speeds of about 5 mph. This causes my vehicle to abruptly stop without the brake lights being activated. I then have to depress the brake pedal and release the parking brake. Then my cruise control is inoperative until i restart the vehicle. I was nearly rear ended after the most recent occurrence. I've taken my vehicle to the nearest volvo repair center four times to be repaired but the malfunction still occurs. Volvo is unwilling to replace my car under the lemon law.

2002 Volvo S60 - YV1RS53D022- Woodbridge , VA: July 20th, 2012

The contact then noticed the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 10v489000 (air bags: frontal), but was informed by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included. The contact was informed by the manufacturer that an engineer will examine the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 13,700.

2008 Volvo Xc90 - YV4CZ982481- Scarsdale, NY: July 9th, 2012
I bought my xc-90 from big dee volvo on 12/19/2008. I had anti-skid warning come up 2 year ago and took it to big dee. They reset the message. It was fine for a year or so. The same message appeared again in 10/2011 but it went away on it's own. I took it to palisade volvo and they said it was fine. Now the message appears every day and disappears. The antiskid got turned off automatically. Took it to palisade volvo today and they said it had a faulty sensor and needs to be replace. The total cost is $750. I believe that the i had a faulty part while the car was on warranty and this falls under the scope of lemon law. I am requesting complete reimbursement of the amount.

2009 Volvo C70 - YV1MC67279J- Suffolk, VA: June 26th, 2012
Driver door unlatches without warning; interior lights illuminated. Door moves/opens about 1/4-1/2 inch but safety catch prevents full opening. Driving over smooth road, top down. No highway or surface interruptions (such as bumps or holes) that jarred door open. Same events has happened about 8-10 separate times. Dealer reports no codes captured and unwilling to replace door lock assembly. *jb

2007 Volvo Xc90 - YV4CZ982871- Pasadena, MD: June 25th, 2012
Despite volvo's knowledge of problems with the xc90 transmission, when it failed completely, i took it to an aamco dealer because there was no local volvo dealer. The tach was all the way to the right and the wheels would do nothing. It was very dangerous. Despite have the extended 100k warranty, and this prior knowledge, volvo corporate refused to assist in any way with the $6k cost of the repairs because i didn't have it repaired at a volvo dealer. I was told by aamco that it was dangerous to be driving. I would never own another volvo of any type.

2012 Volvo S60 - YV1902FH3C2- Chelsea, AL: June 21st, 2012
This is the second occasion on which this defect has appeared, the prior incident happening in approximately march 2012, at a mileage of approximately 5000 miles. I have owned the car for just under six months. I live in a southeastern us state and travelled to my second home in florida. The car has been parked in florida fewer than 20 total days. On both of the last two occasions during which the vehicle was parked in florida, an animal was apparently able to climb deep into the underbody of the car and chew on wires controlling the dynamic traction stability control system, the antilock braking system, the cruise control system, and the volvo city safety crash avoidance system. On both occasions, the internal car alert system detected the problem, alerted me, and volvo agreed to cover the cost of the repairs, though today, on the second occasion, volvo indicated they will not cover this form of damage in the future. I proposed to both my volvo dealership and to the national volvo customer care center that an appropriate form of shielding should be added to cover the wires controlling these systems to prevent an animal's access to them. To the best of my knowledge, this suggestion was ignored, as no special shielding was described/offered, despite the critical nature of these systems. This problem has never occurred with either of the other two vehicles which i regularly take to the same location, thus, i believe this is a design flaw in which either the materials used in these wiring systems are particularly attractive to whatever animal chewed the wires (e. G. Soy-based wire coating polymers perhaps), or more likely, the wires are not sufficiently shielded/jacketed to prevent such damage. In each case, since there was not a nearby volvo dealership, i drove my vehicle back to the dealership from which i purchased it without functional safety systems.

2002 Volvo V70 - YZ1SW61R921- Potomac, MD: June 19th, 2012
The contact owns a 2002 volvo v70. The contact stated that the vehicle smelled of gasoline. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 09v483000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump) which would replace the fuel pump flange. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was unknown.

2000 Volvo C70 Convertible - YV1NC56D51J- Windsor, CT: June 6th, 2012
The contact owns a 2000 volvo c70 convertible. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact engaged the accelerator pedal and suddenly there was a reduction in the speed. In 2010, the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign id number 06v441000 (vehicle speed control). The recall remedy failed to correct the problem permanently. The vehicle had not been repaired for the most recent failure. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.
