2007 Mercedes Benz E350 - WDBUF56X57A- Tulsa, OK: August 28th, 2012
Mine is a 90000 mile vehicle showing normal wear, no abuse or no accidents, diagnosed with leaky fuel tank. Just spent $900 on fuel pump, sender and pressure sensor-all of which was to fix strong gas odor. Repairs did not abate the strong gas odor when tank is full. Independent mercedes mechanic then diagnosed as leaky tank and stated that repairs would be about $1500. His parts man said that the part number on the fuel tanks had changed three times-indicating that he thought that mercedes was trying different fixes. Mechanic also said that his shop has diagnosed/fixed several other with same problem. Gas odor is so strong that i believe that a tossed cigarette would ignite my mercedes. Mechanic says that the tank is some form of "plastic" and not metal.

2012 Mercedes Benz E350 - WDDHF5KBXCA- Charlotte, NC: August 28th, 2012
The interior dash vents (shiny items) are reflected unto the side mirrors making it dangerous when changing lanes because one cannot be sure what one is seeing in those lanes because the reflection is very pronounce. These vents and other dash items are also reflected on the windshield, almost like an obstruction when one is driving. In addition, the adjustable front seats, are so uncomfortable that one is constantly adjusting the seat setting while driving. These issues can cause quite a distraction and are obviously dangerous. When we reported these items to the dealership, mbcharlotte, and mbusa, they took no action. If there was ever an accident with this vehicle, and the cause and effect was related to these issues as contributing factors, how can one ever prove that they caused the accident or contributed to the cause. One would need a whole lot of experts to show that the manufacturer build in the problem by not addressing it, or testing for the effect that these issues cause the driver('s). One of the dealers product expert, solution to the reflection problem was to roll down the windows when driving to get rid of the reflections. The individual who sold us the car, [xxx], tells me, now, that he notices this reflection on all these cars. The dealership is indifferent about these items brought to their attention. Even though they, in our eyes, are safety issues. Hopefully nhtsa can look into this and can do something to resolve it. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

2002 Mercedes Benz Cl500 - WDBPJ75J72A- Sherman Oaks, CA: August 28th, 2012
While driving my 2002 mercedes cl500, i noticed smoke coming from the engine bay and the smell of something burning. Upon inspection it was discovered that a hydraulic suspension hose ruptured and sprayed fluid onto a catalytic converter. This resulted in a large amount of smoke and small flames starting to appear right before the passenger side engine bay was hosed down with water. The mercedes dealership advised this was a known issue and a recall was issued/performed back in 2005/2007. Mercedes advised me no further work would be done under the recall. I am reporting this to nhtsa as this is a dangerous safety related recurring defect reported on many websites/forums, yet mercedes refuses to take appropriate action to permanently resolve it.

2000 Mercedes Benz E Class - WDBJF65J5YA- Hillsdale, NJ: August 27th, 2012
My 2000 e320 has excessive rust issues through out the entire body. I was told by mercedes benz of north america this is a common issue because of the use of a new water based paint used between 1997-2002 but because i am out of warranty and the car is over 10 years old they can not help me or offer me any further assistance with the issue. I have located online forums with consumers who own the same car as myself and have the same exact issues in the same places and received the same information from mbusa. The worst areas are in every wheel well causing the wheel wheels to buckle and chip into the suspension and break area and it has cause the frame of the car to severely weaken, in addition my rear trunk key hole area is rusting through and i was advised it will rust through and at that point the locking mechanism will come off and i will at that point need to replace the trunk lid possibly causing the trunk to involuntary open while operating the vehicle.

2009 Mercedes Benz Ml350 - 4JGBB86E69A- West New York, NJ: August 23rd, 2012
Please note that on the ml350 with led lights there seem to be a major issue with light replacements. While driving my car states that the brake light is broken. Brought it to the dealer they state that there is no bulb replacement. You have to replace the entire tail lamp for 545. 00. I think this is crazy just for a blown bulb, mercedes did not design the led tail lamp bulb to be replaceable. I think the maker is an ass to design the tail lamp that way. I think this unfair practice and hope someone investigates.

I noticed a distinct gas odor in my garage the morning after i filled up with gas. I checked the fuel sender/pump assembly area as is stated in many forums where owners are complaining about this commonly occurring issue. There was fuel puddled in the cup of the assembly. Car went completed "dead" at stop sign. Could not restart engine. Called mechanic and wires within engine wiring harness had shorted out due to wire insulation cracking and breaking off and shorting with other engine components. Mechanic stripped out wire and spliced it. Stated the wires are in bad shape due to the type of insulation mercedes used from 1991 to 1997. He stated i should replace the engine wiring harness as it would continue to short out components and would be not only a driving hazard but also a fire hazard.

2007 Mercedes Benz C230 - WDBRF52H57F- Tucson, AZ: August 9th, 2012
After filling the fuel tank, a very strong odor of raw gasoline coming from rear of car. The strongest smell coming from drivers side rear wheel well, no visible leaks detected. The smell is getting worse after each fill-up. Replaced the gas cap, no change in condition. Contacted the dealer from where car was purchased and inquired about similar complaints and fixes because another of my family has the same model with similar miles and has the very same problem, the dealer was unaware of any issues with this model. Because the car is out of warranty, will need to find a repair facility to solve and correct this issue before something catastrophic happens. Also found in research that this same issue has been found in other mercedes models of the same model year.

After fueling up completely, there was a strong raw gasoline smell in my garage. It was coming from the rear driver's side wheel well. This is the opposite side of where the fuel fill cap is! There were no visible puddles on my floor, but it smelled as if there should be. The problem went away for a little bit, however, it does this now every time i fill up the car and it is hot outside.

2007 Mercedes Benz R320 - 4JGCB22E17A- Neptune, NJ: August 8th, 2012
Engine 'died' (vehicle lost all power) while traveling at highway speed. I had to pull vehicle over on side of the road with no power assistance steering or braking. Brough it to the dealer for service 8/8/12, stalled two more times while enroute. I was told that it is a failed camshaft sensor. I looked up all safety recalls on vehicle, and found one for the crankshaft sensor in 2008. I was told that my failed camshaft sensor is different and is not covered by the manufacturer, even though it produces the same symptom/result as a failed crankshaft sensor. Both items perform simarlarly in that they assure correct engine timing, disabling the engine if a failure is detected in either part! I submit that this is a safety issue and should at least be covered by the manufacturer!
