2001 Land Rover Discovery Ii - SALTY15461A- Oceanside, CA: August 22nd, 2012
The contact owns a 2001 land rover discovery ii. The contact stated that the engine cooling failed causing the serpentine belt to fail. The active cornering enhancement (ace) pump banjo bolt lost torque and allowed fluid to leak past the joint. The contact was informed of the recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 04v006000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was taken to a dealer who verified that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 121,000.

2009 Land Rover Lr2 - SALFT24N99H- Dauphin Island, AL: August 19th, 2012
Engine coolant hose quick connect to engine was leaking and caused the failure of the alternator. Gulf coast land rover service department charged me $1,121. 99 to replace the alternator, coolant hose and replacement coolant. Nhtsa#10033405.

2006 Land Rover Lr3 - SALAE24466A- Holbrook, NY: August 9th, 2012
Check for transmission software update, as it initially seemed to have the must discussed problem of harsh and irregular shifting when rolling to a stop and then re-accelerating. This problem has continued intermittantly and now the vehicle sometimes drops completely out of gear when slowing down or turning. The vehicle then dropped out of gear and i had no acceleration, as it was suddenly like i was in neutral. High rpm.... But no movement. After a few seconds, the transmission seems to find "drive" and i can then move forward with normal acceleration.

2007 Land Rover Lr3 - SALAE25487A- Evergreen, CO: July 30th, 2012
Front differential seized while driving on i-70. Failure occurred seconds before vehicle became immobile. Car was left stranded partially obstructing right lane on interstate near a blind curve.

2002 Land Rover Freelander - SA1NY22242A- West Unity, OH: July 22nd, 2012
I began accelerating on a viadock (bridge) when i felt a snap underneath me, as i reached the peak of the brigde, the car stalled out and i began descending on the bridge with my 2 daughters in the car. It completely stopped before i was able to reach the bottom of the bridge, which put me in harms way of traffic coming over the hill. I immediately hit my hazards and prayed everyone would see me before rear ending me. I was able to get the car towed. Then i found out it my timing belt broke; causing my engine to shut down. Total cost to fix will be $4000. I researched this make and model and found that hundreds of other people have reported similar issues. There seems to be a lot of issues with this particular make/model/year. The reviews on how land rover has been handling this particular issue are mixed with some saying they rectified the problem immediately and others saying they would not even respond to their complaints. I am nervous to see how they handle mine.

2008 Land Rover Lr2 - SALFP24NX8H- Durham, CT: July 20th, 2012
While driving, at any speed, i experienced a loud humming noise from the rear of the car. I brought the vehicle to a repair facility and was told the rear differential is defective. Doing some research on the topic, found that there are many cases of the rear differential failing before the recommended service time of 10 years/100,000 miles. It appears land rover is aware of the problem and has commented on replacing the defective unit with a new designed rear differential. A call to land rover corporate regarding a recall was negative, and non committal to a solution other than out of pocket expense of $2500 to me. I feel that this is a major safety issue as this component is part of the drive train.

2008 Land Rover Lr2 - SALFR24N18H- Temecula, CA: July 18th, 2012
Respectfully request to recall the rear differential of a land rover 2008 lr2 hse. A moaning noise is heard from the rear and it gets louder as the speed goes up. Reading through the lr owners of this same vehicle from us and uk and it is not fair that the consumers cough up over $2,500 to $5,000 for this repair. Land rover of america should have known that they put in a faulty rear differential on the 2008 lr2 right just as the warranty expired. The cost of repair is pretty hefty and the vehicle is still drivable eventhough the rear differential is broken. Should we wait until an accident happens on the highway before they recall the rear differential? Please initiate recall investigation. Thank you.

2008 Land Rover Lr2 - SALFT24N58H- Los Angeles, CA: May 24th, 2012
The a/c does not put out cool air when the car is not moving at high speeds. The overheating light came on, unsure why. Nothing wrong with coolant.

2007 Land Rover Range Rover - SALMF15497A- Butte, MT: March 13th, 2012
Throttle will stay open (and seemingly open a bit more) for approximately 1/2 - 3/4 of a second after foot removed from accelerator pedal. Particularly troublesome at very slow speeds, parallel parking, etc. When "coasting" or simple idling is expected, but vehicle seems to continue as if accelerator is lightly pressed.

2003 Land Rover Discovery - SALTK16443A- Miller Place, NY: March 10th, 2012
Oil pump failure. Land rover issued a technical advisory to all of their dealers in march 2003 warning that due to a manufacturers defect in the engine block dowels being misdrilled where oil pump housing is mounted, that the misalignment causes the oil pump housing to be stressed eventually causing the oil pump to fail. The only effective repair is to replace the engine. I purchased this vehicle in 2006 which had come off lease. I had it serviced at land rover dealer in southampton ny and they never advised me that this was a manufacturers defect and that my vehicle fell within the vin range referred to in the technical advisory. Other consumers have the same problem and there are over 30,000 vehicles currently on the road with this same problem. Why is there not a recall and why does lr not replace the defective engines?

2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport - SALMF1E44BA- Gladwyne, PA: March 9th, 2012
While driving vehicle straight on a 2 lane road, suddenly had to swerve left to avoid a car coming out of a parking lot without looking - and without any warning the power steering totally failed - and i could not pull the heavy truck back into the lane - and almost had a head on collision!! More disturbing is the fact that upon inspection, land rover and the local dealer, land rover main line in pa, admitted this happened to another customer - but have no idea why this happened and can not assure that it is repaired!!! This is a dangerous issue! There may be other unsuspecting drivers on the road in 2011 range rovers who may have a head on collision if this happens to them because the wheel is very, very heavy to turn without the power assist steering - and - when not expecting that sudden loss of power assist - the recipe for danger is heightened!

2003 Land Rover Freelander - SALNY122X3A- Oak Harbor , WA: March 5th, 2012
At 88,000 miles, my 2003 land rover freelander lost ~80% of power while going up a hill on a major high way and started to billow smoke. After steering the vehicle out of traffic, i popped the hood to find the material on the lower side of the hood on fire. Upon putting this fire out, i realized there was still a large amount of smoke coming from the underside of the engine cover and my anti-freeze was empty, when served only a couple weeks prior. After letting the vehicle cool, i took off the engine cover to find it had a mixture of coolant and oil resting on top of it; a dark-milky colored liquid. Upon having it towed and further inspected by a professional, not only is my head gasket gone, a fitting on the a radiator line had melted above the engine, and a catalytic converter is as well. I got it back to my house in this condition because i still owe $7500 and have only had it for 1 year. Mechanically totaled in my driveway, it now only sometimes will shift and when it does, only happens with force. Prior to this almost fatal disaster, i had three window assemblies brake; ruining the motors and causing them to fall while driving, and my brake lights do not function. I replaced the brake light switch, problem with brake lights still persists. I've given up hope on this suv and have got not one reply from land rover costumer service. I am stuck making payments, and even if i could afford to fix it, would never put my wife and daughter in it again. Please get these vehicles off the road, before someone is even less lucky then i.

2005 Land Rover Lr3 - SALAD24495A- Los Angeles, CA: February 26th, 2012
Water coming into the driver and passenger carpet through the sunroof drains.

2004 Land Rover Discovery Ii - SALTY19484A- Anaheim, CA: February 23rd, 2012
This vehicles headgasket failed which is a common problem which will require a complete overhaul of the engine. A non dealer price is $8900. 00 to repair the engine. This happens from what i am told at 90k miles plus.

2002 Land Rover Discovery Ii - SALTL15482A- Upper Marlboro, MD: February 6th, 2012
While driving on the highway at 55 mph, the driveshaft came apart without warning and i was almost got in an accident which i was able to avoid. I contacted the dealership in alexandria, va about the problem and i was told that it was most common in land rover and range rover. It should be recalled because it would cause severe accidents if there is no warning beforehand.

2001 Land Rover Discovery Ii - SALTW15471A- Port Angeles, WA: January 27th, 2012
While attempting to park in a parking lot, my wife applied the brakes, which caused our 2001 land rover discovery ii to suddenly accelerate. The harder she pushed, the more it accelerated. Fortunately, she hit a concrete encased light standard before hitting anyone or another vehicle. She was not hurt, although very traumatized, but the vehicle hit so hard, it crumpled the whole front end, effectively totaling the vehicle. I was dismayed to see the number of land rover sudden acceleration incidents when i googled it. It certainly appears there is a design flaw which has not been successfully resolved thru any recall efforts by land rover. I intend to pursue legal recourse.

2001 Land Rover Discovery Ii - SALTW12411A- Saint Louis, MO: January 26th, 2012
2001 land rover discovery ii. Consumer writes in regards to possible unintended acceleration *tgw the consumer stated he took his vehicle to the car wash. As the vehicle was exiting the automatic car wash tunnel, a young man entered the vehicle, started the engine and according to him, it suddenly accelerated and rear ended another customer's vehicle. The manager at the car wash informed the consumer a recall had been issued regarding sudden acceleration. When the consumer contacted land rover, he was informed no recall or service bulletin had been issued with respect to his particular vehicle. *jb

2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport - SALSH23426A- Hartland, WI: January 17th, 2012
@ 65mph, i heard a muffled 'pop' coming from beneath and in front, and my 2006 range rover sport supercharged immediately lurched. A gear whine proceeded, which would react in pitch to my rate of speed. Feathering the throttle impacted the noise, and i suspected my front differential, or a front wheel bearing. As it was extremely cold outside, and extremely late, i babied the sport the remaining 10 miles home, where i raised the truck and confirmed a great deal of heavy viscosity fluid had coated the bottom of my vehicle, emanating from the front differential, on the left (us driver's) side. It caused quite a bit of smoke, having painted itself on to the exhaust system. After some research, i discovered that land rover has issued a special service bulletin on front differential failure, saying that on early models, the inside of the differentials were coated with a paint that delaminates, mixing with the gear fluid and contaminating it, causing overheating and bearing/seal failure. I am out of warranty (the truck is now @ 50k miles), and have filed a complaint with land rover to petition to get this covered under warranty. This, apparently, is a common problem - enough so that they issued a service bulletin admitting a fault.

2002 Land Rover Discovery - SALTW12472A- Houston, TX: January 8th, 2012
Oil leak on engine, oil pan leak, water pump leak, no power on engine it lost the power from over heating, mechanic wants to replace engine i was quoted 3700 dollars. How can i know if this engine was a defect.

2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport - SALSK2D41BA- New Windsor, MD: January 2nd, 2012
While driving on highway at speed, the vehicle suffered a complete power failure. The headlights turned off, the engine shut down, the dashboard went dark, and the power steering failed causing me to swerve partially out of my lane (i was on a curve). The power then came back on and the vehicle resumed functioning normally.
