2013 Hyundai Sonata - 5NPEB4ACDH5- Cuyahoga Falls, OH: August 29th, 2012
Purchased 2013 hyundai sonata gls at streetboro ohio hyundai dealer new in mid june 2012. Vehicle seemed ok but at about 1500 miles idle became rough particularly at idle in drive at lights and stops. Took in to dealer and was told after 4 days in shop that problem was familiar to the dealer and an engineer was being called in to figure out the solution as no codes were stored in computer. I left the dealer after being told car is within hyundai specs but was running strange. The dealer seems to be avoiding doing anything to admit there is a issue and refused to allow a service tech to ride along with me to experience the problem. They also refused to let my salesman go in a newer model with me to see if any other vehicles had same issues. I wrote to hyundai corporate and was given a list of other dealers to go to. As the problem has begun to get worse the idle will now rev and then decellerate the vehicle when coasting and i can imagine what this braking action will cause the vehicle to do as the weather becomes worse and snow appears. This seems to be a growing problem with the hyundai models from the recent hyundai forums posts.

2013 Hyundai Sonata - 5NPEC4AC1DH- Columbia, SC: August 29th, 2012
Tpms light has came on numerous times and has been to the dealer for this same problem 7 times. The tire sensor was replaced twice and the module was replaced on the next to last time at the dealer. After the module was replaced the light did not come on for 1400 miles. Te dealers service department contacted the technical assistance and decided to move the module to a different location. Each time the dealer checked and it was reported to be the right rear tire. I had them to rotate the right rear tire to the right front and the right front to the right rear. The light came on again and it also pointed to the right rear tire. This is a safety problem as i was almost hit the last time when i was off the road and checking the tires after the light came on. Hyundai tries to blame electrical interference for the problem. I have owned many other manufacturers vehicles since the tpms system was made mandatory and never had a the light to come on unless the tire had lost pressure.

2008 Hyundai Sonata - 5NPEU46F38H- Surprise, AZ: August 28th, 2012
Oil leaking down from timing cover onto alternator and down to oil pan found during routine oil change. Took to one dealer, was told no leak. Took back to my mechanic, took pictures, took to another dealer and was repaired. Found timing cover leaking, remove timing cover, v/c gaskets and pump gaskets.

2012 Hyundai Santa Fe - 5XYZU3LB5DG- Palmetto, FL: August 28th, 2012
The car wants to go anywhere but straight. Any uneven pavement, wind gusts or cars passing by cause the car to require a steering correction. At speeds over fifty miles per hour steering input is required ninety percent of the time to keep the car within the driving lane. The dealer checked the alignment and said everything was to specification and normal. This is the worst vehicle i've ever driven including several motor homes. ## vin passed ## hyundai santa fe 2013 ##

2012 Hyundai Genesis - KMHGC4DD2CU- Lakewood, NJ: August 19th, 2012
Back up camera did not function when vehicle was put in reverse. Back up camera came on when vehicle was put in drive and stayed on for a block or so while car was driven forward. Gps map then was activated, but display froze, then entire screen went blank. Video system then re-booted itself. This was repeated several times before the gps stayed on the video screen as it is designed to function. The intermittent operation of the gps was distracting and could have resulted in the driver not being able to view driving directions.

2011 Hyundai Santa Fe - 5XYZH4AG1BG- Orange, CA: August 19th, 2012
The engine shut down twice while driving it. First shut down on 5/8/2012: after beginning to accelerate for a left turn after being idle at a left turn red light the car's engine lost power before the turn was completed. Power steering went out. Got honked at as cars behind noticed something wrong. Coasted to the side of the road after completing the turn and had to turn the ignition in the off position to turn the engine back on. Second shut down on 8/3/2012: while turning left in a shopping center parking lot the car's engine lost power. Power steering went out. After coming to a stop had to turn the ignition in the off position to turn the engine back on.

2012 Hyundai Accent - KMHCT5AE5CU- Rocky Mount, NC: August 14th, 2012
The metallic silver paint that the company used to cover the black plastic housing for the window and lock buttons easily scratches and scrapes off with "normal" routine touching and with "normal" resting of the arms on these area. The company rep won't admit that they used cheap paint or didn't think about these "high traffic" areas when deciding to use inferior non-durable paint on these parts. I have only had my car for 6 months and the dpsm from hyundai (marietta, georgia - southern headquarters) is not acknowledging the bad manufacturing choice of using the substandard, non-durable coating for these parts. These metallic painted parts cannot withstand everyday "normal" use, as they become unattractive and worn in a very short period of time. (within 6 months - in my case).

2009 Hyundai Santa Fe - 5NMSG13D19H- Jackson, NJ: August 14th, 2012
My 2009 santa fe would squeak while driving, but the noise stopped when brakes were depressed. At the dealership i was told that the rear brakes were hanging and the rotors were rusted. My car only had 26,627 miles. I have had many cars with a lot more mileage and never had this happen. This problem was not covered and the dealership did the following: machined rear rotors and lubricated slide rails, remachined rear rotors, removed and cleaned calipers and all hardware. This was on 10/4/2011. Fast forward to the end of july 2012 and my car is making noise when depressing brake. On 08/9/12 with only 37,843 (approx 10,000 miles later) the dealership told me that my rear brakes were shot and needed to be replaced. I am now finding that these cars have numerous complaints about rear brakes but none of it is covered. I also need new tires and from what i am reading about the rear brake problems this is also contributing to the wearing out of the tires. Hyundai needs to address these problems and since the 2011 santa fe has brake recalls, i feel that the earlier models with these problems should be taken care of and paid for by the manufacturer. Brakes are important and could potentially cause a bodily harm. This is not something that should be ignored.

2009 Hyundai Azera - KMHFC46DX9A- Buffalo, NY: August 11th, 2012
I purchased a 2009 hyundai azera last year from fuccillo chevrolet in grand island, new york. The car was new and still on the lot after 2 years but i was assured that there was nothing wrong it and i have been pleased with the vehicle up until now. However, yesterday while driving home from work, the car went into an emergency slow-down mode and both the ecs off and check engine light went on. This happened on the thruway while i was driving in heavy traffic which was harrowing. Fortunately, i was able to 'limp' off the highway and get to a side street. I called my husband and the emergency roadside assistance and my vehicle has now been taken to northtown hyundai in amherst, ny. My husband researched the slow-down/ecs issue on the internet and found that there have been numerous cases of this happening due to a defective throttle control device in many of the hyundai and kia models. In fact, a woman at the service counter who had a 2007 azera had the exact same issue with her car! Needless to say, this should be a recall issue and that is the reason why i am writing. It seems that this throttle control issue is fairly common with these vehicles and it is also potentially dangerous. Please make them initiate a recall.

2007 Hyundai Azera - KMHFC46D67A- Centertown, KY: August 10th, 2012
The contact owns a 2007 hyundai azera. The contact was traveling 20 mph when the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the seat belt tension sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 75,000.

2012 Hyundai Sonata - 5NPEC4AC6CH- Ithaca, NY: August 9th, 2012
I was driving down a hill that was not very steep, in good weather, with cruise control on at 60 mph. As the car went down the hill, the speed increased to 80,at which point in time i used my brake to slow down. The same thing has happened on numerous occasions with me alone and with others in the car, including a staff member of the dealership, who told me that this was normal behavior for a hyundai sonata and for the cruise control on his own vehicle. If i cancel cruise control in the middle of a hill, speed decreases or holds steady --it does not accelerate.

2012 Hyundai Santa Fe - 5XYZGDAB0CG- Des Moines, WA: August 9th, 2012
I was driving on the freeway, and noticed a ticking sound. Over 2 miles it became progressively worse until it was a loud knocking. I had to exit one freeway, and merge to another, before i could get to an actual exit. Upon trying to accelerate to speed to merge, the knock became severe, i lost compression, and the suv died. There was a puff of smoke out of the exhaust and i rolled to the shoulder. After being towed to the dealership i found out that the #4 rocker arm had shot through the engine block causing a hole in the engine.

2012 Hyundai Elantra - KMHDH4AE9CU- Queen Creek, AZ: August 9th, 2012
Car lurched, engine shut off. Car became uncontrollable and all the warning lights on the dash lit up. Eventually managed to get to side of road where the transmission locked into place. Electrical system was still functional but car was completely unresponsive. Occurred again 800 miles later after "repair" both incidents nearly caused accidents.

2011 Hyundai Genesis - KMHGC4DE6BU- Wheaton, IL: August 9th, 2012
Over the past two months i've experienced three cases of uncontrolled acceleration. Specifically, as i'm driving the car begins to accelerate. I remove my foot from the accelerator and the car continues to accelerate. As i step on the brake the car will slow down, but it's "fighting" me. As i remove my foot from the brake the car begins to accelerate again. If i shift into neutral while this is happening, the rpm's on the car increase very rapidly. The only way i can stop this is to turn the car off. I'm not using cruise control and i have been traveling from 35 to 40 mph. I can't recreate this problem at will and neither can the dealer - so nobody at the dealership has any idea what to do. They have contacted hyundai with no luck.

2008 Hyundai Veracruz - KM8NU73CX8U- Brick, NJ: August 7th, 2012
I have a 2008 veracruz (48k miles) and recently experienced loss of power steering after driving through a puddle (happened twice within a 2 week period). The car could still be steered but with a lot of difficulty. Warning lights came on as if car was stalled but the engine was still running. For both instances, once i pulled the car to the side of the road and put into park, then put back into drive, the steering and car worked fine. I took it to dealer where purchased and they said that they could not duplicate the problem, nothing negative came up on the car's computer indicating a problem and most likely due to the belt slipping when wet. They said that belt was not worn and was at correct tightness. I have not driven through a puddle since, so no repeated experienced yet. I notice other people reporting similar problems with several other hyundai models.

2011 Hyundai Tucson - KM8JU3AC1BU- Floris , IA: August 6th, 2012
The contact owns a 2011 hyundai tucson. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the traction control light illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle jerked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they would look into the matter. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 23,000.

2013 Hyundai Elantra - 5NPDH4AE4DH- Burbank, CA: August 5th, 2012
Purchased a new 2013 hyundai elantra gls 4 door. Once a person turns on their daytime running lights all of the vehicles parking lights turn on as well. No other car manufacture has mandated all this illumination during daytime hours. On august 3rd 2012 at 11:40am i was issued a moving violation by a los angeles police officer in the city of van nuys, c. A. I was cited for violating california vehicle code section 24800 which states "no vehicle shall be driven at any time with the parking lamps lighted except when the lamps are being used as turn signal lamps or when the headlamps are also illuminated". I explained the scenario to my lawyer and he advised me that the citation is valid because in c. A. The word headlamps in vc section 24800 is interpreted by the courts as the vehicles primary source of forward illumination and daytime running lights do not fall into this primary source category. To avoid future citations i highly recommend that if you operate any 2013+ hyundai product do not use the daytime running light feature because the parking lights will light up and you will be subject to a citation. I advised hyundai via a recorded phone call about this problem. If they do not take proper action to correct this they will be considered negligent.

2007 Hyundai Tucson - KM8JM12B87U- Media, PA: August 3rd, 2012
My stop lamp switch failed may 2009 and failed again july 2012. Called hyundai today and they say my vin is not covered by the recall listed below. Since the part has failed twice i would like to know why my 2007 tucson is not covered by the recall. Since i have had the problem twice i think the recall should be expanded to cover my car and possibly others. Posted: apr 21, 2009 10:06 a. M. Hyundai motor corp has recalled more than half a million vehicles from model years 2005 through 2008 due to an issue that could cause brake lights to light at inappropriate times, or fail to light when needed. In a defect notice filed with the national highway traffic safety administration, the automaker explains, "the stop lamp switch in the affected vehicles may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights not to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed, or may cause the brake lights to remain illuminated when the brake pedal is released. " it is also possible that a malfunctioning stop lamp switch could "affect the operation of the brake-transmission interlock feature," making the vehicle unable to shift out of park. "it may also cause the electronic stability control (esc) malfunction light to illuminate, and it may not deactivate the cruise control when the brake pedal is depressed. " hyundai dealers will replace the stop lamp switch in all affected vehicles, free of charge. Hyundai will begin contacting owners through the mail this week. Those who wish to make their own repair arrangements may contact hyundai at 1(800) 633-5151. The following vehicles are affected: 2006-2007 hyundai accent 2007 hyundai azera 2007 hyundai elantra 2006-2007 hyundai entourage 2007 hyundai santa fe 2006-2007 hyundai sonata 2005 - 2007 hyundai tucson 2007 - 2008 hyundai veracruz
